What a barisolo!!
That Baritone caught my attention from the very beginning.I knew that Gill was slowly about to build up the band.Great video. So glad I decided to see it.This is intense.Like watching a good thriller.Grabs you and won’t let go…Enes
@scatcat81 howard johnson.’s got the moves
thats hip hop, yo. hah. ever been to a hip hop show? thats how they do it there too, not the whole song, just enough to keep em comin back. a little piece of advic e from monk.
Howard Johnson on the bari. Mostly played tuba, but this performance is one of the most notable modern bari solos.
good call, I think it’s incredible how Gil Evans didn’t care to exclusively perform songs, but instead start teasing the piece he wants to play until the rest of the band follows along. That’s one of the best traits a musician could have, it symbolizes their ability to see the relationship between difference composers/arrangements.
This piece ends with Monk’s “Friday The Thirteenth” melody (and arrangement)
Friday the Thirteenth- T. Monk
That’s gotta be a bass sax.
wow..awesome
thought there must be a wynth in the intro – till i saw it’s a baritone sax!
