There’s an elementary school in my neighborhood here in Portland, every September Swifts gather up each night to fly into the chimney. This is a small little tribute I created for the master himself. From his early album Goin’ Home, Ayler’s rendition of Nobody Knows the Trouble I’ve Seen.

Jazz pianist and educator Harvey Diamond at the Lennie Tristano Symposium held in 2007. Harvey talks about his experiences studying with Lennie and he performs solo piano. His introduction says it all: “Harvey Diamond is a bona fide master of the piano and has yet to receive the recognition he truly deserves.” Pianist Harvey Diamond is an unsung hero of the jazz scene. He is a musician beyond compare, a true artist, a true original. He has never officially released a recording under his own name however there are countless recordings of his live performances which span his career and were made by his students and other audiophiles. He is a highly sought after educator and has been a teacher and mentor to many generations of musicians. Originally from California, moved to the Northeast in the late 60′s and currently resides in the Boston area. Harvey was one of the last prize students of the late great Lennie Tristano studying with him weekly for 10 years in New York City up until Lennie’s death in ’78. In education and performance Harvey continues to promote Tristano’s concepts. He has performed with Sheila Jordan, Dave Liebman, Charles Neville, and Art Farmer. Currently on the faculty of the Winchester Community Music School and the Vermont Jazz Center, formerly on Berklee College of Music Faculty. Currently leads his own trio and another group with his daughter, vocalist Hannah Rose Diamond. visit his Facebook Official Artist Page at: www.facebook.com
